Promotion Ceremony Requirements

To participate in the 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony, students must meet the following requirements:

  • 60 or more credits (No more than two Fs their entire 8th grade year on final report cards)

  • Must have served all detentions

  • No major discipline (suspensions and/or A2S) during the last five school days - will result in removal from the Promotion Ceremony, Promotion Dance, and Promotion Field Trip, with a possibility of no refund.

  • Have no more than 7 days of suspension during the second semester of school.

  • Have not been referred to SARB (School Attendance Review Board)

  • Have all uniforms returned

  • Have all fines cleared

Promotion Activities Requirements

To participate in the 8th Grade Promotion activities (i.e. dance, trip, etc.), students must meet the following requirements:

  • 60 or more credits (No more than two Fs their entire 8th grade year on final report cards)

  • Must have served all detentions

  • No major discipline (suspensions and/or A2S) in the last quarter - will result in removal from the Promotion Dance and Promotion Field Trip, with a possibility of no refund.

  • Have no more than 7 days of suspension during the second semester of school.

  • Have not been referred to SARB (School Attendance Review Board)

  • Have all uniforms returned

  • Have all fines cleared

The following chart shows a typical 8th grade students’ schedule along with the manner in which credits break down (i,e, by semester, by year, in total, etc.).

Breakdown Grading

Students earning sixty or more credits will be promoted to the next grade. Students earning less than 15 promotion credits a grading period will be referred to the Tutoring Program and/or summer school. Each grading period that a student attends a minimum of 75% of the days tutoring is held, he or she will earn 2.5 credits back. Another way to earn credits is through summer school: by passing summer school courses, students may earn up to 7.5 credits.
